meet michael gabel

Michael Gabel has been an award-winning actor, director, talk show host, producer and educator for over 40 years.

Michael has appeared at The Kennedy Center, Ford Theatre, The Folger, Arena Stage, The Roundhouse and many, many others. He has done guest appearances at Howard Community College and University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Michael has appeared in over 80 films including My One and Only, A Dirty Shame, Major Payne, Guarding Tess and Death Without Consent. His television credits include Homicide, Life of the Street, Shot in the Heart, The Wire and has also contributed dozens of voices as part of “The Loop Group” for The Wire.

Michael also is known for his numerous voices for “My Wonderful Radio Show” a radio series for children. He along with Brook Stevens were the morning hosts of “The Morning Show” on WVIE in Baltimore.

He has twice been the recipient of the A.I.R. Award (Achievement in Radio – Talent Division ). He is also the recipient of the 2008 Silver Peer Award for Actor in a Drama and 2010 Silver and Gold Peer Award for Actor in a Drama and the 2011 Silver Peer Award for Actor in a Drama. He received the Bronze Peer Award for Actor in a drama in 2014. He received the 2015 Gold Peer Award for Actor in a Drama. Michael was honored with 2009 and 2011 Baltimore 48-Hr Film Festival for Best Acting. He was one of four presenters at the 2010 Peer Awards. He was awarded the Best Supporting Actor Award at the prestigious 2012 LA WEBFEST for the Web Series, “Wall Geek.”

Michael’s most recent projects include playing The Apocalyptic Preacher in the upcoming film “Wonder Woman 1984,” coming in November. He played Man 2 in “The Commuter” a two character film about about two old schoolmates who meet by chance on a bridge and the encounter changes both their lives. And, he plays series regular, Teddy, in the pilot episodes of “Uproar.”

Michael is the Co- Founder and Executive Director of The Actors Institute which provides professional training for those interested in Acting in film and television. He was named to Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals. He was honored to be included in a documentary on “Acting and Teaching; from Stage to Screen” which included the likes of Richard Spencer and Spike Lee and was recently interviewed on “The Studio” for George Mason University.

He has taught Acting and Film at Catholic and American Universities, Montgomery College, The Smithsonian Institution and is currently on the faculty of The Theatre Lab. Michael has voluntarily given numerous workshops for The SAG-AFTRA Conservatory, The Actors Center and The Theatre Lab.
